On Saturday, December 14th, I gave a talk at Gallery MAR on how meditation is part of my artistic practice. I am by no means an expert in meditation, but I strongly believe that being present is a skill that can be practiced just like anything else. If you missed the talk, you can hear it as Gallery MAR had the foresight to record the talk so you can hear it as well. In the talk, I discuss how art and meditation play a roll in my life, and how to find unique ways to meditate in the non-traditional sense. You can listen to the whole talk for free on SoundCloud here.

Then we spend 15 minutes with this painting and discuss what we all see in it. This part of the discussion may not be as interesting to a listener who wasn't there, but if you stare at the painting while we talk, it might be a bit more fun. This painting is called Rojo Y Negro by Laura Wait and is available through Gallery MAR.

Finally, we finish up the talk with a guided drawing meditation that I narrate, while the guests of the talk participate in. It takes about 15 minutes and I would encourage you to do as well. All you need is a piece of paper and a pen or a pencil. No artistic skills necessary. I'd love to hear your thoughts and if you would be interested in me doing more things like this, especially the guided meditation.
