Announcing a new way to develop artistic skills - Art Practice! I will be hosting 1 hour long art skills practice sessions live via Zoom for $15!

People always ask me how I developed my artistic skills and the truth is that it was just practice - I painted a lot and continue to paint a lot. The more time you spend with a brush, pencil or pen in your hand, the better you get. But it can be hard to know where to start, what to practice and how to practice. This hour long class will help you do that. In each class, I will walk you through some skills and show you how they can be applied in your own art practice. We'll be focussing on watercolor right now as that's what I know best, but if this becomes a thing, maybe we'll explore different mediums.

This class series is not about finishing paintings, but about developing skills, much like how you practice scales on a piano, strumming on a guitar, or even yoga poses. In fact, this whole idea was inspired by the many delightful yoga classes I've been to where we spend a whole hour together stretching our bodies, expanding our minds and "practicing" poses. As the saying that "Practice Makes Practice" and in order to create the kinds of art we want, to translate the visions we have in our heads onto paper or canvas, we need the tools, the skills and the know how to get there.

<< Sign up for each class by sending $15 to @BridgetteMeinhold via Venmo and send me your email address in the comments >>

What happens in the class:
Each class will focus on a basic skill, which we will explore and then apply to something that we can use in another painting. During the virtual class hour taught via Zoom, I will walk you through steps to master the skill giving you time to practice along with me as you watch remotely from your own home. No need to go anywhere, no need to leave your house, just login to our private online classroom. For cohesion and for the sake of time, all attendees will be muted so you can simply follow along with my coaching. We will have 5-10 minutes at the end of the class for live questions, and I will do my best to answer questions typed along in the comments during the class.

What you need for the class:
This is super basic. I don't want you to rush out and buy supplies for this if you don't have to. If you are looking for specific products I would recommend, please visit this supply list. At the most basic level have the following:
  • A couple of watercolor brushes
  • A pencil & eraser
  • Basic watercolor set - Use your kid's school watercolor palette, or if you don't have anything, you can always paint with coffee, tea, berry juice, anything really. If you have acrylic or gouache you can also use these, just use a bit more water.
  • Watercolor paper
  • A couple of paper towels
  • A rag
  • A container of clean water
  • A quiet place where you can focus
AGAIN - no need to go out and buy lots of supplies. Use what you have and build up your toolkit as you learn what you want and need.

Zoom Classes Info:
All classes will be held LIVE via Zoom, which can be downloaded and used for free on all devices. I would recommend that you use your computer or tablet if possible as this will give you a better/bigger screen on which to see the class than your phone. It's also easier to type out questions than using your phone. Please download the app and get used to the interface BEFORE the class begins. I will NOT provide any assistance with Zoom questions, tutorials or problems. Please google "how to zoom" or reference Zoom's tutorials for assistance with this app.

Before the class begins, I will send you an email confirming your attendance with the class as well as the login info for our meeting, which includes a password unique to our meeting. Please be punctual, the class only lasts 1 hour and will start and finish on time. Don't worry about signing up for a plan or paying any money to Zoom - I have it all taken care of on my end as the host. All you pay is $15 to me.

I am learning on the go about virtual teaching. I may change the process, sign up, and format of the class as I learn better ways to do things. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears!
